10 Affordable (Yes, Affordable) Fashion Finds That Look Expensive

By Caitlin Burnett

When it comes to fall & winter fashion, price points are typically higher compared to the spring and summer seasons. Between thicker textures, heavier fabrics, and complicated construction, it’s hard to find quality items at an affordable price. Lucky for us some of our favorite retailers are doing the impossible and offering ultra-chic pieces at approachable price tags.

The best part is that not only are these affordable, but they actually look expensive—they have all the features of a luxury item but cost only a fraction of the price. We combed through brands like H&M, Lioness, and Mango to highlight the best fall fashion finds worth the money, all of which look infinitely more expensive than they are. Below are 10 fashion pieces that combine the best of all worlds: price point, quality, and style.

1.

H&M Straight Cut Coat in Grey Melange

Leave it to H&M to create the quintessential fall coat—peppered texture, slightly boxy fit, mid-calf length, and slit detailing at the back. This coat pairs perfectly with virtually everything thanks to the charcoal grey colorway, and the slight oversize nature allows you to layer any sweater or blouse you’d like underneath.

To say this coat looks significantly more expensive than it is would be dramatic understatement.

2.

Lioness Sweater Dress in Oatmeal

The perfect sweater dress does exist. Lioness may have just created the best sweater dress of all time, between the rich camel color, thick weave, midi length and keyhole opening at the back. The length was made for fall boot pairings—a sleek knee-high pair is as chic as it gets—so accessorizing this dress is a no brainer. Just add some chunky gold jewelry and you’ve got an outfit that’s ready for anything.

3.

Everlane The Chunk Cardigan

Meet the only sweater you’ll want to wear this season. The thick rib knit looks ultra-luxe and the zipper detailing is right on trend, with zip necklines becoming increasingly popular as 2021 goes on.

The adjustable zipper front also allows you to control your temperature, so keep it open and casual for indoors and then pull the zipper closed to create a cozy turtleneck-type situation when braving the weather. It comes in three elevated neutral colorways and is all-but-guaranteed to become your new staple sweater.

4.

Free People Seamless Turtleneck Bodysuit

Since we’ll all be living in turtlenecks from now through March, a sleek bodysuit version is a must. The fitted silhouette resolves any tucking issue, ensuring you can pair this piece with every pant or skirt style in your closet without worrying about bunching. This bodysuit looks particularly polished paired with high-waisted loose trousers, juxtaposing the fitted top with a more voluminous bottom. Oh, and it comes in 10 colors.

5.

Mango Pointed Heel Ankle Boot

Exaggerated toes are a major boot trend this season, and this Mango pair just nails it. It also pairs well with virtually everything while adding more interest to your outfit than a traditional boot. The unique shape of the heel and detailing down the front add to the elevated feel.

6.

Madewell Linelle Cableknit Pullover Sweater

A good cable knit sweater is a fall/winter staple but not all are created equal. This affordable Madewell find features the intricate stitching and stripe details that cable knit dreams are made of. Not only does it add a fresh pop of texture to your look, the cream color is the ultimate neutral base for building the rest of your outfit around.

7.

& Other Stories Angular Sunglasses

It’s rare that a pair of sunglasses universally complements all face shapes, but this frame does just that. The angular cat eye draws the eye upwards, creating an ultra-flattering profile while the tortoise pattern adds a sophisticated polish. These may well become your everyday go-to, and for just $29 they’re a worthwhile investment.

8.

Line & Dot Amanda Sweater Dress

Talk about a date night dress—this Line & Dot dress is equal parts elegant and romantic. The string detail around the neck aligns perfectly with the floss trend we’ve been seeing the past few seasons, while ribbed detailing and midi length offer an air of sophistication. Pair with knee-high boots and you’re ready for an evening out, romantic dinner, or holiday event.

9.

Moon River Bomber Jacket

It’s nearly impossible to find quality outerwear at an affordable price point, so when you come across it you jump on it. This Moon River jacket is one of those unicorns—The mix of rich chocolate faux leather and camel shearling in an oversized bomber fit is as chic as it gets. Shearling is also poised to be one of the biggest outerwear trends for fall and winter so this jacket is the ultimate score.

10.

ASTR The Label Gaia Dress

Attending a wedding? This sage green slip dress from ASTR the Label is equal parts timeless and elegant. The modest slit adds a romantic touch while the unexpected tie detail at the back is simply stunning.

This is one of those pieces you’ll add to your closet now and pull out for weddings, events, and special date nights for years to come. Clocking in at under $100, it’s one of the smartest purchases you could make.
