5 Fall Trends to Have on Your Radar

By Caitlin Burnett

Ever since the fall runway shows, certain trends have been living rent free in our heads as we mentally plan our seasonal wardrobe. From luxurious leather to structured shoes, this season’s biggest trends are finally hitting all of our favorite retailers and it’s almost cool enough outside to start wearing them (almost).

Unlike some past seasons, Fall ‘22 is all about elevated basics and wearable staples that feel less like trends and more like classics with modern updates. Loose tailored trousers, polished leather belts, and maxi hemlines are just a few of the major trends the fashion world is buzzing about right now.

To help you narrow down your fall shopping list, below we’re highlighting 5 fall trends poised to be the biggest—and most seamless to mix in with the pieces you already own.

Now we’re not saying you need to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe for fall, but if you’re interested in adding key trend pieces to pair with your existing staples then these five are a great place to start. Plus because each one isn’t overtly trendy, it has serious staying power and can remain in your closet for years to come.

1.

Oversize Leather Jackets

Blame Prada for sending biker-chic models down the fall runways decked out in oversize leather, but this is the one jacket trend that will reign supreme this season.

Moto details and boxy fits are key to nailing the trend, and you can plan on wearing it with virtually everything from dresses to sweaters to maxi skirts. Throw it on over even the most basic of outfits for an instant air of edge.

2.

Belts

While belts were never out, per se, they’re definitely having a moment for Fall ‘22. Clean, classic leather styles are popping up on runways and street style looks alike—and they’re easily the most effortless trend to hop on.

They add polish to every outfit and will truly never go out of style so if you’re going to invest in one trend this fall, quality belts should be it.

3.

Maxi Hemlines

Step aside micro minis of summer, this fall the fashion world is leaning into floor-grazing styles instead. Whether it’s on a skirt or dress, the maxi hemline is back in a big way this season.

Prepare to see this ‘90s trend everywhere, paired with all different types of shoe styles.

4.

Loose Trousers

Here’s another trend that isn’t necessarily new but is reaching peak popularity for Fall ‘22

Fashion people are swapping their favorite jeans for loose tailored trousers, opting for a more polished look. Buying into the trouser trend is actually a smart investment, since this is another one that style that will never truly go away.

5.

Loafers

This preppy shoe style ebbs and flows in popularity, and this fall it’s going to blow up. Whether you go for a chunky punk rock style that Prada and Celine are offering, or a more classic option like Tods, the loafer is sure to be the shoe of the season.

For an extra preppy look that’s right on trend, pair yours with a cute pair of socks for an academia-inspired outfit.
