This month over at Style Me Pretty, I’m showing you how to get perfect soft and tousled waves for your wedding day. This is pretty much my day-to-day style. It’s so feminine and flirty without looking overdone—absolutely perfect for your wedding day!
Need a recap? Here’s how to get the perfect waves step-by-step:
First it’s important to start with a great blow dry. Add height and volume with round brushes. Add some texturizing spray or dry shampoo in for an extra boost. I’m using the dry texturizing spray from Oribe. If you have any split ends, use a nourishing touch up on your ends for a quick fix. I love the Touche Perfection from Kerastase.
Once you are done drying, you will want to start curling with a one-inch curling iron. Any brand will do but I love to use Enzo Milano and the Beachwaver from Sara Potempa. Section the hair into one-inch pieces.and curl the hair both forward and backward, alternating directions, from mid-shaft down. The randomness gives a more natural look. It’s super important that the front pieces on each side should curl away from the face You can also use a flat iron to curl hair for slightly tighter waves.
Once finished curling, run your fingers through the hair to pull the curls out a bit. If you like the more piecier look, run a little bit of wax through the ends of the hair to define the curls and on the top to tame flyaways. My favorite wax of all time is actually from my husband’s drawer, Magic Move! It works wonders and doesn’t weigh down hair. You do NOT want fly-aways in your pictures!
Finish with a light dusting of hair spray to hold the curl. Your hair should move and be touchable. So go easy on it! Also, this look needs shine…that’s a huge part of making your locks look sleek and beautiful! Kenra has a great version.
For summer weddings, it might be more comfortable to have your hair pulled back. But don’t do anything you aren’t used to doing. Your wedding day is not the time to experiment with your look.
I’m a huge fan of combs from Calypso St. Barth They are beautiful way to beat the heat! Grecian-inspired wreath and jewel crowns (also from Calypso St. Barth) are other options. Both are the perfect addition to your tousled waves.
