Waxing Wisdom With Riki B: How To Find The Right Waxer

Bikini season is HERE, ladies! It’s time to start thinking about waxing. I am absolutely OB-sessed with my waxer, Riki Bablia. She is the wizard of waxing and has been pruning Hollywood’s down-there hair for over a decade.

Here are some expert tips from my book, The Everyday Supermodel, that will help you find the perfect person for the job.

  • Credentials Are Key: In most states, a waxer needs to have a cosmetology license. A lot of nail salons offer waxing, but they are not credentialed, so enter at your own risk. Also, you want someone whose main bread and butter is waxing. For example, if they do 90% facials and 10% waxing, they just aren’t going to have the same light touch as someone who waxes day in and day out.
  • Hygiene Queen: Look around! Is the place clean? You should want to eat off the floors. The environment can be cozy, but the operation needs to be clinical.
  • Trust Is A Must: You don’t need to be best friends with the person, but you have to be comfortable with her. You are exposing yourself and your nether regions and may need to ask her a question or two. It’s important you are made to feel at ease. Referrals from savvy friends are the best, but websites with personal reviews, like Yelp, are helpful too.

Try NOT to shave in between waxes. Instead, use a depilatory. The depilatories out there are very effective and won’t create the itching sensation that shaving does.
