Supermodel Secrets | Oxygen Facial
I’ll be honest—no one, I mean no one, looks like they do on the red carpet in their everyday life. I’ve been in the industry a long time so I’ve learned quite a few secrets. And it’s no secret that my career depends on my skin looking good. Besides having a great daily regimen, eating healthy, and drinking lots of water, there are other ways to get “red carpet” ready for your own special occasions.
Magazines these days seem to recommend every cosmetic treatment out there. It can be really confusing to wade through it all. When it comes to treatments, I’ve been there and done mostly everything (within reason, of course!)
Recently, my good friend and hair/skincare extraordinaire, Kiki Heitkotter, re-introduced me to the oxygen facial. And I’m hooked. They’ve been around forever but I’m just now getting back into them. Since it’s almost Oscar weekend, I thought this would be the perfect time to show you my skincare prep.
Oxygen facials are basically the fastest way to give your skin that plumped up, glow look that’s constantly seen on red carpets. The device, which looks as clinical as they come, sends a pressurized stream of oxygen that delivers active ingredients to the skin. Some of these ingredients include hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and peptides.
Since everyone has different skin types and concerns, there are different treatment options regarding what products you use. Here are four of the main options, which are offered at every session:
- Rejuvenate - diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while enhancing overall hydration.
- Opulence - helps uneven skin tone look brighter and more luminous.
- Clarity - calms acne while restoring moisture balance and defending against future breakouts.
- Atoxelene - is a needle-free Botox alternative that helps to soften and firm expression lines, define the eye contour and plump the lips.
For every treatment option, the serum includes a targeted blend of hyaluronic acid, botanical extracts, antioxidants, peptides, and vitamins. For this weekend, since I know I’ll be photographed, I went with Opulence because I want a glowing canvas for makeup.
So, what should you expect? The whole non-invasive process takes about 30-60 minutes. The oxygen is meant to enhance the absorption of the serums so you get more benefit. Oxygen is also naturally antibacterial (great for acne!) And, I know what you’re probably thinking. No, this is not normal everyday oxygen. Compared to the 18-21 % in our everyday environment, the device delivers 90-95% pure oxygen.
The oxygen is delivered through an airbrush wand; it looks very similar to what a spray tan tech would use. It feels very similar, too. The whole procedure basically feels like a cold blast of air in the most relaxing way possible. I’m serious—I almost fell asleep.
Once the wand has moved it’s way around your face, more serums and moisturizers are applied to give you added benefit. The results? Plump skin with a flawless finish. Unfortunately, since it’s non-invasive, the actual noticeable results will last around a week. That’s why it’s great to do for a wedding, red carpet, or a vacation where you know you will be photographed.
The price of an oxygen facial obviously depends on what city you live in. It can be a steep price (around $150 a session) but AB-solutely perfect for a pick-me-up before those moments that matter.
