ON THE TOWN: Upscale Italian at Il Sole

I travel a lot, and whether it’s for business or pleasure, one of the things I always look forward to is finding the most amazing destinations each city has to offer. Whether it’s the chicest boutique, tastiest restaurant or most luxurious spa, I usually know pretty instantly when I’ve discovered one of those fabulous places that I’ll be frequenting for years to come. So welcome to the “On the Town” column—hopefully I’ll be putting my knowledge to good use and helping all of you find your new favorite hot spots!

I’ve decided to start with one of my old L.A. favorites that’s recently been given a new look and an updated menu. I’ve been coming to Il Sole for years and it’s something of a Hollywood institution. It has a romantic vibe, but it’s also a great place to come for a fun night out with a girlfriend. The cuisine is classic, upscale Italian fare (think oven-roasted Dover sole with lemon sauce, pan-seared filet mignon topped with truffles, and lobster ravioli) and the wine list is quite impressive—but if you like Bellinis like I do, Il Sole’s are to-die-for. I recommend starting off with the arugula and Parmesan salad and then ordering the Dover sole, Robespierre beef or risotto with shaved truffles for your main. And if you still have room for dessert, try the biscotti—it’s out of this world!

Love, Molly
