Natural Beauty DIYs + Recipes!

If you haven’t heard of Sweet Laurel Bakery, it’s about time you have. Native Californians, Laurel Gallucci and Claire Thomas (who also has an AH-dorable blog called Kitchy Kitchen) are a serious natural beauty & baking duo. Interestingly enough, the two go very hand in hand. Sweet Laurel Bakery specializes in “beautifying” foods. This means foods that promote gut health, simplify, and are anti-inflammatory. Instead of wheat and other inflammatory ingredients, Sweet Laurel Bakery uses almond flour, coconut flour, coconut oil, flax seeds, maple syrup, and pink Himalayan sea salt for all of their baking needs.

A couple months ago, I had attended their workshop on grain-free baking. When I found they were hosting a natural beauty class in the hills of Los Angeles with the girls from How You Glow and Lux Eros, I knew I wanted in. Since becoming a mom, I’ve been a huge fan of natural beauty especially when it means I can make it myself!

Here are some recipes I learned at the workshop that you must try at home. P.S. - the natural beauty DIY’s are great for gift giving, too.

Evening & Morning Oils With Desanka Fasiska (Lux Eros):

Evening Oil:

  • 2 parts base (almond oil)
  • 2 parts lavender
  • 1 part ylang ylang

Invigorating Morning Oil:

  • 2 parts base (almond oil)
  • 2 parts lemon oil
  • 1 part rosemary oil
  • 1 part cinnamon

Soothing Bath Soaks With Claire Thomas (Sweet Laurel Bakery & The Kitchy Kitchen)

Rosy Coconut Sea Salt Bath Soak:

  • ½ cup Himalayan pink salt
  • ½ cup coconut milk powder
  • 3 tablespoons lightly crushed dried rose buds
  • 1 cup Epsom salt
  • 2 drops rose hip oil

Grind a few rosebuds in a mortar and pestle until slightly broken up. Then combine everything in a bowl, stirring well to combine. Spoon in a jar, and seal. Keep in a cool dry place for use.

Soothing Lavender Vanilla Oatmeal Bath Soak:

  • 1 cup coconut milk powder
  • 2 tablespoons culinary lavender
  • 1 cup Epsom salt

Combine everything in a bowl, stirring well to combine. Spoon into a jar, and seal. Keep in a cool, dry place for use.

Lavender/Rose-Brown Sugar Body Scrub With Tara Sowlaty & Jessie Groveman (How You Glow)

  • 1 cup coarse brown sugar
  • ½ cup almond oil
  • 8 drops lavender essential oil

Mix your sugar and oil. You want the consistency to remain grainy, not soupy. Add in the lavender essential oil, which will give the scrub an incredible aroma. Place the mixture into jar, and leave the jar in your shower or by your sink.

Rose-Honey Face Mask With Tara Sowlaty & Jessie Groveman (How You Glow):

  • 4 tablespoons raw honey
  • ½ tsp rose essence/oil
  • 1 tsp crushed rose petals

Stir the rose and honey together, along with crushed rose petals. Place into jar for storage. Use a small amount to apply over your face. Leave it on for about 10-20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. [show_lookbook_widget id="246256"]
