Who doesn’t love a sexy, smoky eye? But that doesn’t mean it couldn’t use an update every once in a while! Leave it to my makeup artist extraordinaire Gianpaolo to breathe new life into the old beauty standby. He took the concept of the smoky eye, but completely reinvented it using colors inspired by one of nature’s most beautiful palettes. Presenting: the ‘sunset eye!’

I asked Gianpaolo to tell us all how to get this look at home. He used Rachel Roy’s Day & Night Palette for the sunset hues, but don’t be afraid to experiment with other products in similar colors!

Step 1: Line the top and bottom lashes with Dolce & Gabbana The Eyeliner in Bronzo, staying as close to the outer lash line as possible.

Step 2: Blend the Dark Magic color from the Rachel Roy palette into the eyeliner, so that the line is soft.

Step 3: Blend the three other colors from the Rachel Roy palette (Fire, Energy and Galaxy) onto the lid, with the lightest color in the inner corner of the eyes and the darkest color along the outer edges.

Note: Well-blended colors are key to this look—no polished lines.

Step 4: Apply Dolce & Gabbana Eyeliner in Gold to the inner lash lines to open up the eyes.

Step 5: Apply Impeccable Brow Pencil in Dirty Blond to the eyebrows. Keep it subtle as not to take away from the color of the eye.

Step 6: Apply Lancome Hypnose Mascara in Black to the lashes, again, keeping in subtle.

Voila, beautiful sunset eyes!
