Last week I shared some of my fav, fav, fav fashion finds with ShopBuru - #MomStyle, Date Night, and my latest must-haves accessories. I also sat down with the site's creator Morgan Hutchinson for a little Q&A about being a momma to Brooks, how motherhood has changed me and getting back into shape post-pregnancy. I wanted to invite Morgan to post on MollySims.com about her favorite fashion trends for #MomStyle for the fall season. Plus (!) we have an exciting sale for you. Use the code BURU+MOLLY for 20% off anything on the site AND keep reading till the end of the post for another super exciting offer!! Take it away Morgan!
The reality for most of us mommas is that we are not buying looks straight from the runways. And, truth be told, even if that was my reality, I wouldn’t do it. Combining high and low, vintage and new is what makes your personal style unique and one of a kind.
That said, I often look to the runways for styling inspiration. I learn from the masters of design and make it work in my lifestyle as a working mom. In chatting with Molly about all things #MomStyle, she and I thought it might be fun to share 5 of my favorite fall trends from the runways and show how you can make them a reality in your own wardrobe.
I am a sucker for pink, in any shade. So of course I was thrilled to see every shade of blush and bashful making its way from the days of summer right into the cooler months. The beauty of this is you most likely have several items from spring and summer that will transition easily into fall and winter with the simple swap of accessories and outwear. A few pieces to freshen up this trend is all you need. I also suggest scouring the sales racks (or your favorite online shopping site dedicated to moms – wink) as left over summer pieces in light colors will be a steal right now!
There is nothing more comfy, forgiving, and mom-friendly than the perfect knitwear. I love styling a more casual sweater with a chic midi skirt (a much more forgiving length for moms) and a head-to-toe look is sophisticated, yet easy to wear. The real beauty of knitwear is that it comes in all shapes, sizes, colors, and prices. If you are looking to splurge on cashmere – there are some great new washable options (especially if you are using The Laundress products). If price is a concern, it shouldn't be. Poly blends have come a long way and many sweaters are offered in easy cottons at amazing price points.
An easy and super fun way to spruce up your wardrobe is to get a little crazy with your color palette. Some hot color combos for fall include: grey, navy, and olive green; cobalt and maroon; and brown, red, and light tan. So my suggestion is to dig through your closet, find some of your favorite items in these color ways, and shop the colors you are missing to get several new looks without buying a ton of new items.
You know what the best part of outwear is? No one has to know what is underneath! So if you are running late for carpool wearing the t-shirt and leggings you slept in…no worries. Just slip on one of these fabulous coats (or capes), some big sunglasses, possibly a hat depending on your hair situation, and you will fool even the most scrutinizing mother in the car next to you!
As Molly and I are from the same small town in Western Kentucky, it seemed appropriate to include this hot trend. On top of that, it incorporates denim which is obviously a mama must-have (and super easy to style!) These looks are effortlessly cool and perfect for play dates with your little one(s).
Molly and I would love to see how you incorporate these fall trends into your own mom style! If (and when you instagram your #OOTD) – please tag us so we can see how fab you look! Simply tag: @MollyBSims, @shopburu, #momstyle and a special treat will come your way!
