Summer Trends I Love: Wide Brim Beach Hats

I've always loved a great accessory. As someone who likes to keep it casual and chic as possible during the summer season, a wide brim beach hat is a must. For those days I want to go makeup-free or I'm in a hurry, it's a lifesaver. I can throw on a breezy sundress or bikini, my favorite pair of sunnies, and a great hat. Voila! With barely any effort whatsoever, you have an instant look.

You can choose to stick to a classic look or something a bit more fun and festive. Right now, everyone is loving a straw hat with a custom saying or tassels. Believe it or not, I actually picked up this Do Not Disturb hat while shopping for only $18. I'm not going to lie--I'm proud of myself for this sale find!

Oh, and if you're questioning whether or not I stayed poolside without a disturbance, you know better than that. The moment I sit down to relax for a minute is also the minute I hear "MOMMA!!!" reverberating through the backyard. Oh, well. At least the hat is cute, right!?

Another perk of this summer trend? It protects your face from the sun..and your hair. I'm not a natural blonde (shhh!) so I need all the help I can get when it comes to lasting color. My hair becomes dry and brittle with too much sun exposure which leads to some nasty breakage. Not cute! A little side note tip: to avoid any excess damage, I always skip the styling tools. I'll typically do air dried waves (my tutorial here!) and wear a hat if I know the beach or pool is on the agenda. Wide brim hats are perfect for those days when you choose to go salty hair and makeup-free. It's that little bit of sun protection that really makes a difference.
