Spring is Here—These Are the Only Trends You Need to Know

By Caitlin Burnett

If you can believe it, spring has officially sprung. Goodbye short, dark winter days and hello sunshine and a fresh batch of spring fashion trends. Last fall designers sent models down the spring runways in a variety of looks, but there was one key theme transcended across the board: Optimism. In fashion, what’s going on in the broader cultural zeitgeist influences major fashion trends—think the celebratory styles railing against prohibition in the ‘20s and the flower power styles of the ‘70s creating a counter-culture against the Vietnam war.

This explosion of optimistic dressing that designers are embracing is a breath of fresh air after the collective weight we’ve all experienced the past few years.  Showcased through various mood-boosting themes like bright colors, party-ready sequins and fabrics, and funky patterns, this celebration of optimism is going to be everywhere for spring ‘22. And while there are tons of micro-trends bubbling up, there are only a few that will be major this season.

Below we’re highlighting the 6 key spring trends that should be on your radar, plus some shopping ideas if you’re looking to get in on them early.

Spring ‘22 is all about color in general, but the unofficial It color of the season is a punchy shade of tangerine. After the heaviness of the past two years we’re all collectively ready for some happy fashion, and the bright orange hue is leading the charge. Prepare to see tangerine on everything from dresses to accessories to swim this season.

Another extension of happy fashion is the escapism trend—think clothing and accessories that look and feel like you’re on a getaway incorporated into your daily wardrobe. Textured crochet, fun prints, beaded jewelry, and tropical vibes are going to be everywhere, taking beachwear into the everyday.

Cutouts Continued

Cutout details have been going strong for the past few seasons and show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Adorning everything from dresses to swimsuits, cutouts add a bit of edge to any outfit. Whether you want to show just a sliver of skin or go full abs, a cutout detail will feel both modern and perfectly on trend.

Oversize Leather

Leather jackets have taken a backseat to more popular styles like blazers and trench coats the past few seasons, but that’s all changing for spring ‘22. Leather bombers and biker  jackets—specifically of the oversize variety—are coming back in full force. Prada solidified their comeback by showcasing them all over their spring runways, and they feel like a nice change of pace. Go up a size or two when shopping for an extra oversize look that adds an instant air of cool.

Sporty Chic

Get ready to channel your inner tennis pro because we’re leaning into the sporty vibe this season—Think tennis skirts, sneakers, athletic socks, and ‘90s-era sweatshirt merch. Country club-inspired attire adds a new layer to the preppy revival we saw start to pop last fall, and will continue to grow throughout spring.
