[Amber] On Barefoot Blonde

Molly and Emese start the episode by asking Amber about her blog. “I started my blog when I was 19 or 20. I had just dropped out of college to go to hair school and had always been a very avid journaler. My blog started with me journaling about bad dates and how I was going to get rent that month. I didn’t experience any real success until years later,” explains Amber. “People made fun of me for doing it, and I didn’t care because I thought it was is fun. Any hair picture I posted would go viral on Pinterest and would bring a ton of traffic to my blog. People have been with me since before I got married.”

[Amber] On Hair Trends

I have always been obsessed with braids, and I’m loving the baby braid trend right now. I love to throw my curtain bangs up when I don’t want to style them. It’s the perfect mom hairstyle. I also think dark tones are coming in and then it’s melting into your blonde a little bit. It’s the Giselle hair – very beachy and sunkissed. As for cuts, people are going shorter, like the Kendall Jenner and Hailey Beiber cut. I also think the really slicked-back pony or bun isn’t going anywhere. It’s so easy and chic and really great for when your hair is greasy. I love to put a mask in my hair and slick it back in a bun all day for a nice all-day treatment.”

[Amber] On Treating Over-Processed Hair

“I always tell people, especially blondes, the first 2 weeks after you get your hair done is when your hair is the most vulnerable.” She shares the hair tips below:

+ Make sure you avoid heat as much as you can.

+ Do conditioning treatments in those 2 weeks to help build your hair.

+ You don’t want to break your hair strands at this time because you’ll never have to repair it if you never break it.

+ Try to not wash it for at least a week, and if you can try to go for longer than a week.

[Amber] On Dae Hair Products

Molly and Emese ask Amber what the meaning behind Dae is. “As we were testing the shampoo and conditioner with all my friends and family, they were all saying they could go an extra day in between washes,” explains Amber. “We also realized that dawn, afternoon, evening we’re all in one day and did a little play on that.” Amber says her hero products are, “probably the monsoon moisture mask, prickly pear hair oil, or the shampoo. Those are our best sellers as well. As for our condition, a little goes a long way and it’s super detangling. You don’t need to comb through it.”

[Amber] On BFB Extensions

Molly asks Amber, “what’s the biggest mistake people make with extensions?” Amber explains, “If you can’t find your exact shade it’s always good to go darker. You also have to root shade your extensions. It will always be darker at the root with shadows. You can get Loreal dye from the drugstore. This will hide the wefts more. Also, get seamless wefts.”

“Clip-ins are the healthiest type of extension for your hair. Permanent ones pull out so much hair. When you have that much pressure on your hair, it’s not good for your hair. We have fill-ins for the side of the head for $62, and it’s a great option for a natural look.”

[Amber] On Hair Health

“I do think hair health has a lot to do with eating a lot of fruits and vegetables. You can’t just use a hair serum and suddenly your hair is going to grow. You have to exfoliate your scalp, which will stimulate the scalp and help it grow. I leave a brush next to my bed and brush my scalp. There’s a lot that goes into hair growth, and you really have to be consistent. I also think people are scared to put conditioner on your scalp. If your scalp is dry don’t be scared. When I was my hair, I like to do an overnight oil treatment the night before. You have to exfoliate and hydrate your scalp, just like your skin.”
