New York City Travel Guide
As you guys know, I travel between L.A. and New York quite often… sometimes twice a month because of work! I have to say that I definitely know my way around the city especially after living there in my early 20’s. Because of how often I go to the city it economically makes sense for me to have an apartment there, now, but before I got an apartment, I would couch surf—a working model has gotta do what she’s gotta do!
I know this guide is way overdo but hey, momma’s got a lot on her plate. I’m excited to share all of my secret spots I hit while I’m in the city as well as my favorite tourist attractions. Scroll down to see my favorite shops, restaurants, hotels and must-haves in New York City!
If you’re looking for a weekend getaway with your significant other, The Pierre Hotel, to me, can be summed up with one word: elegance. But let’s be honest… staying smack dab in the city can get expensive. 1 Hotel Central Park is also one of my favorites. The décor is extremely clean and crisp, which I LOVE. I’m also obsessed with their window seats that they have in almost every room, it’s perfect for sipping on coffee in the morning while reading a book.
For those of you who are heading to the city with your girlfriends, trendy boutique hotels are the way to go. They’re perfect for sipping on a cosmopolitan while channeling your inner Carrie Bradshaw. I love love love the New York Edition and the Ace Hotel for a girls getaway!
Lastly, for those of you who are traveling with your kids—you obviously want a kid friendly hotel! We all know how hard those are to find. I highly recommend Kimpton Hotel’s Ink48! I’m telling you guys, the kids are going to LOVE this place. They have animal print bathrobes, hula hoops, a pet goldfish to keep your kids company and your own pets are welcome as well. And if your kids are on the younger side, they provide everything from child safety kits and cribs to strollers and scooters. If this doesn’t make momma happy, I don’t know what will.
Okay, now on to the important stuff… the FOOD. Although I love LA, I have to say that New York has THE BEST food! Here’s a few of my “must eats” while in NYC:
The Butcher’s Daughter: Although we have our very own Butcher’s Daughter in LA, I still need to stop here to get my fix while I’m in the city. You guys, I DIE for their Mediterranean bowl. I don’t know what it is about it but I can devour it every time. I also recommend stopping by for brunch to get their gluten free weekend waffles…they’re insane.
Maman Bakery: This is actually my happy place. The have the best almond lattes and croissants that I’ve ever had—I’m not even being dramatic. If I could have one cheat meal for the rest of my life, this would be it.
Smile to Go: As far as healthy “fast food” this is the place to be. Its kind of where everyone goes on their lunch break for a quick and healthy salad. It’s the market deli style where you can also get delicious items to go that you can take home to snack on later.
Sarabeth’s: If you’ve never been to New York, this is the SPOT. Sarabeth’s brunch is pretty much famous for locals and visitors. Whether this trip you’re on is with your man, bffs, or kids, everyone will love Sarabeth’s. I highly recommend their peanut butter French toast. ;)
Now on to my FAVORITE section on this blog… shopping! Just how the food is better in NYC, so is the shopping! Below are just a few of my guilty pleasure stores because believe me, there are many… especially in SoHo! I just might dive deeper into the shopping and food in SoHo in a future blog just because there’s so much to cover. Stay tuned for that! But for now, check out where I absolutely have to go when I’m in town.
ABC Carpet & Home – If you’re a home décor junkie like I am, you would absolutely appreciate this furniture store. It’s where I got the majority of my furniture in my home in Los Angeles. They have everything you can think of from vintage rugs to chandeliers. I can tell you one thing—ABC Carpet & Home screams chic.
Michele Varian – This home goods store is just so good you guys. I cannot even count the amount of gifts I have bought here because they just really have something for everyone. The prices aren’t outrageous either; you can find plenty in the $50-$100 range.
Blue Tree - This boutique-y shop is a must when you’re in NYC! It’s owned by actress Phoebe Cates and it was her dream to have it be like a “general store but according to me.” So it basically has everything you can possibly need from jewelry, toys, furniture, and clothing… you name it. It’s so unique that it sort of feels like a museum rather than a store.
Nili Lotan – ALL of my friends know how obsessed I am with Nili Lotan! She only has three stores and they’re all in New York. So it would just be wrong if I didn’t add her Tribeca store to my list. I die for her silk, cami dresses and pants. They’re just so comfortable that I can’t resist.
Journelle - Regardless of the occasion… Journelle has the classiest lingerie, loungewear, shape wear… you name it. The prices aren’t too bad either! Pro Tip: if you can’t make it to the New York to hit the store, they have an excellent sale section online!
Edon Manor - Momma love a good shoe and Edon has the best shoe collection and brands… ever!
Global Table - is a hidden treasure of affordable, exotic and home accessories. All of the pieces are from around the world hence the name, “Global Table.”
Stella - Surprise!! Another home goods store on the list. Can you tell I’m OBSESSED?! I have to add Stella to my list because that’s where I got Scarlett’s bedding. A tour of her bedroom is coming very soon… I promise!
Cos Bar - Cos Bar is literally the Bergdorf’s of cosmetics. They have every luxury beauty product imaginable. If you’re ready to splurge on an eye cream that will soothe and relieve your puffy eyes that all of us mommas have…this is your place.
WHAT TO WEAR : MUST HAVES FOR FALL IN NEW YORK!
More stores I’m obsessed with in NYC!
Last but certainly not least… I have to share my go-to facialist for while I’m in the city… aka my all time skincare secret: Georgia Louise
