Get Relief From Your Morning Sickness With These Cures

Ugh, I’ve been sick as a dog during this pregnancy. I’ve had morning sickness from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed. I’ve even vomited in the parking lot of a grocery store! Not the most ideal situation.

Morning sickness is usually the worst in the 6th-12th week of pregnancy. But unfortunately, it can last a bit longer. It’s all caused by hormonal changes, vitamin deficiencies when pregnant, and low blood sugar to name a few. If you’ve been struggling like I have, don’t worry. My pregnancy guru, Lori Bregman, is back on my YouTube channel to clue us in on some tips to help relieve us!

10 Tips To Keep On Hand:

1. Taking Vitamin B-6 (25 mg) every 8 hours has shown a significant effect in reducing or stopping nausea or vomiting.

2. Zinc supplements (25mg/day) has also shown to help morning sickness.

3. Chew on fresh ginger or organic ginger chews. Also, it can help to peel some fresh ginger to stick in your tea or to make your own ginger ale (recipe below)

4. A couple drops of peppermint oil on a sugar cube can be a lifesaver. It helps keep your blood sugar stable while the peppermint soothes your stomach

5. Eat small, frequent meals throughout the day. Make sure they have some carbs and protein to maintain blood sugar (avoid fatty or rich foods at all costs!) It also helps to eat a protein-rich snack right before bed.

6. Get moving! Walking or mild exercise will relieve hormonal activity. The fresh air will also help.

7. Getting out of bed in the morning can be the hardest part. Make sure to get up slowly and keep a box of crackers on your nightstand.

8. When in doubt, make lemonade. Lemon helps relieve nausea. Sucking on lemon drops helps, too!

9. You know those motion sickness bands you can get for sailing? Wear one for morning sickness to get the same effect.

10. Acupuncture doesn’t just help with pain. Book an appointment at your local acupuncturist for some relief. I use Dr. Jing at the TCM Healing Center in Santa Monica.

Lori’s Homemade Ginger Ale Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of grated fresh ginger
  • 1 1/2 cup of water
  • 4 tbsp Agave Nectar, or to taste
  • Club Soda
  • Fresh mint

Directions:

1. Bring to a boil the ginger with the water and reduce to a simmer for 35 minutes. Remove from heat and let sit for 15 minutes. Once cooled down, add the Agave Nectar. Then use a hand mixer to puree.

2. Take 1 1/2 tbsp of the ginger mixture and pour over a glass of ice. Mix in club soda and stir. Top with a fresh sprig of mint as garnish.

**Ginger can be pretty bitter if not sweetened to your exact liking. Be sure to taste test and find the exact amount of Agave that speaks to your taste buds.
