My Interior Designer’s Favorite Places to Shop

Dan Scotti is one of those guys that just has really, really good taste. He knows how to turn my vision into reality. And over the years, he’s become my go-to East Coast guy for all things design-related. I sat down with him to get his expert advice on how to score the best décor and furniture finds in the Hamptons.

And while we’re at it, why not show you a peek inside my Hamptons home? Not only did Dan design it, but many of the pieces are from the very shops he refers to below…

R.E. Steele

I know that I will always find something fabulous at R.E. Steele in East Hampton. Russ maintains an excellent mix of vintage Scandinavian, Italian, French and American furniture, accessories and lighting.  And he’s constantly buying new pieces, so I try to drop by his shop at least once per week to check out the new inventory.  An insider’s tip — if you’re looking for something specific it always pays to ask Russ because he keeps a large percentage of his inventory in the basement.  R.E. Wyeth

Wyeth, in Sagaponack, has one of the best collections of museum quality mid-century antiques anywhere in the world.  But don’t let that intimidate you. Go there and ask for Jen Sullivan — she is very knowledgeable and is also super cool.  In addition to all of the great vintage pieces by the likes of Wegner, Wormley and Kagan, Wyeth designs and makes beautiful new furniture pieces.  In particular, I love their walnut and steel barstools and their bamboo and oak accent tables.  Wyeth also curates the most amazing vintage lighting and raw industrial metal furniture and objects. Wyeth’s main location is on Spring Street in Soho and they have a huge amount of additional inventory in off-site warehouses. Wyeth (3654 Montauk Hwy, Sagaponack, NY 11962, 631.604.2103)

Monc XIII

Monc XIII, by Natasha Esch, in Sag Harbor is the perfect place to shop for unique house-warming gifts.  My favorites include leather-wrapped coolers from Spanish artisan Sol y Luna and hand-crafted Geoffrey Parker backgammon boards.

Natasha also has a great eye for vintage Italian lighting and mid-century furniture.  But aside from all of the beautiful product Monc XIII carries, it’s worth a visit just to see the space itself.  Monc XIII (40 Madison St., Sag Harbor, NY 11963, 631.808.3333)

Laurin Copen Antiques

Laurin Copen curates an interesting mix of rustic, Swedish, folk and mid-century furniture, lighting, art and accessories.  One of the reasons that I love her shop is because she seems to gravitate towards pieces that have taken on a natural cool grey patina — which I find to be the perfect palette for a Hamptons home.  I also find it fun to shop for antiques in an eighteenth century farmhouse.  Laurin Copen Antiques (1703 Montauk Hwy., Bridgehampton, NY 11932,631.537.2802)

Kinnaman & Ramaekers

Brian Ramaekers’ antique store in Bridgehampton is where I go to buy cool vintage accessories for the home.  The shop is a mix of kitschy, industrial and americana and it caters to shoppers in all price points.  Some of my recent finds at Brian’s shop include vintage pyrex jars and a collection of vintage leather exercise balls.   Kinnaman & Ramaekers (2466 Main St., Bridgehampton, NY631.537.3838)
