#SupermodelSecrets: How to Style a Beauty Bun

One of my go-to hairstyles that I love, love, love to take from day to night is the top bun, or as I like to call it, the beauty bun. It’s really great for those days that you just want your hair out of your face and don’t really feel like dealing with it. It’s perfect for when you want to look put together, but don’t want to be fixing your hair all day. And I love that with some fabulous earrings and accessories you can instantly take this little bun out to dinner or an event. Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to do the perfect beauty bun.

The first step is to brush your hair back into a very high pony. You don’t actually need to tie it into a pony-tail, but pull it back as if you are going to. Here’s a tip! Spray your hair or your brush and brush your hair back to get rid of fly-aways. The Lemon Drop brush from Dry Bar is great, and I can’t get enough of L’oreal Elnett hairspray.

Next, twist, twist, and twist your hair as much as you can and coil it into a bun shape. Tuck the end pieces under the base of the bun and secure with a hair tie. Once the bun is secure, generously tug on every part of the bun to give it a fuller, messier effect. You don’t want it to look too perfect, so don’t be afraid to pull on it.

Now that the shape of the bun is there, have fun with it! I really love to add things around the base of the bun. Not only does it amp it up a bit, but it makes it easier for you to be a less particular about how perfect the bottom of the bun looks. For a daytime look, a thick, braided hair extension or hair tie that matches your hair color looks AH-dorable. For night, why not make it fancy? A jeweled headpiece or headband that ties at the end can turn the bun into a super elegant look.

Be sure to try the beauty bun next time you feel like experimenting with a new style! Try it different ways for both day and night and let me know which you prefer! Do you like it more glam? Do you prefer it more relaxed? Tell me everything!
