It’s no secret that I love, love, love summer and all the fun that comes along with the warm weather, but Fall in New York is especially exciting because of Fashion Week! Manhattan is always changing, growing, and becoming better and better, so I thought I’d share some of my new and old favorites with you as the Spring 2015 shows get underway! Even if you’re not heading to NYC for Fashion Week, these spots are a must-visit any time you make it to the Big Apple.
During one of my last trips to New York this summer, I had dinner at Gato with close girlfriends and we fell in love. Two must orders are the roasted octopus with sour orange, bacon and oregano plus the kale and wild mushroom paella with crispy artichokes and egg. I’m already planning my next dinner there as soon as I’m back!!
There are a whole host of juice spots in New York now, but when I’m in town, I love to frequent The Butcher’s Daughter. Their kale chips are great to grab as a snack when you’re running around, and I always go for the avocado toast as a DE-licious breakfast option. Most places serve their avocado toast with red pepper flakes, but The Butcher’s Daughter opts for curry – a welcome twist! As for juices, they have a stable of regulars, plus heritage juices with really new flavor combinations like the Water Flower – watermelon, fennel, honeydew, cactus pear, lime and lavender flower!
For perfect undergarments, look no further. This quaint little store right off of Union Square is beyond precious and stocks the most beautiful lingerie from a variety of brands. Whether you have a special someone or not, definitely indulge when you’re in town.
New York can be a little overwhelming when it comes to shopping options, especially because they’re all over the island. That’s why I love to hit up Intermix. The store has so, so, so many great brands in one location and I know my wallet will be hurting each time I l
The beauty of the Meatpacking District (besides all of the great restaurants) is it’s endless shopping options. Not to mention, plenty of shows and presentations take place in the neighborhood, meaning you can easily pop into any store while you’re bopping from show to show. Multitasking!
If there were ever a time to indulge in a blowout, it’s during Fashion Week. Make an appointment for early in the morning and you’ll be set with your choice of coif for the next few days. Between shows, dinners, parties, and cocktails, the last thing you want to do is worry about your locks.
I’m a huge fan of indoor cycling at Soulcycle and with what seems like endless locations in New York, there’s no excuse to not make it to a class. I can get up really early and make it onto the bike, or pop into an afternoon class when I have a break. I know no matter which class I go to, or which teacher I take, it’ll be an amazing workout.
The Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District has long been a staple thanks to Le Bain and the Standard Grill, but now that love came over to the East Side. It’s a bit more laid back which I enjoy, plus there’s a fabulous new restaurant to frequent after drinks, Narcissa. I hear that the carrots are a dish that you can’t miss.
Situated directly across from Lincoln Center, the Empire Hotel is the perfect option for a quick cocktail after a long day of shows or before a night of heading out to events. Plus, there’s a stellar roof you should DEF-initely take advantage of while it’s still warm outside, with a gorgeous view of uptown and Lincoln Center.
September in the city is just as beautiful as the summer, so make sure to take advantage of outdoor locations as well. There’s this adorable boat docked in Tribeca off Pier 25, which you have to check out before it closes for the season. To top it off, the bar also serves oysters and light bites to enjoy, plus a pretty Instagram worthy view of the city and skyling during the sunset.
