Master the Midnight Smokey Eye

One of my favorite makeup looks for evening has to be the smokey eye. And as much as I love, love, love classic black shadow, it’s fun to experiment with other shades and colors. For this look, I decided to choose navy blue as the base of my smokey eye. The first step is to apply the perfect navy shadow. I really love Midnight Sky by Le Metier de Beaute. I recommend finding a navy that has a bit of shimmer and shine to it vs. something that’s too matte.

Apply the shadow using a fluffed eyeshadow brush to your whole lid, from the lash line into the crease. Makeup Forever has a great brush. Then, with a more flattened brush, dip the tip of the brush into the shadow and line the outside corner of your bottom lashes. Make sure you only do the outside corner! That step is very important. You can find a great selection of brushes at Sephora. Next step: eyeliner! You can use either a dark blue or charcoal liner for this part. Here I’m using Union Jack Black from Butter London. Line the inside of your bottom lash line to really intensify that smokey look.

The next step is my favorite step: making it glossy. A smokey eye by itself is still an AH-mazing look, but giving it that wet, glossy effect really takes it to the next level. For this look I used Wonder Glow by Charlotte Tilbury. Lightly dab it on the center of your lid. Finally, the last step is mascara. As you’ve all probably realized by now, I’m a mascara girl. I love, love, love me some lashes. The mascara that I used for this look is by Charlotte Tilbury. Always curl before you apply, and always remember to start from the base of your lash line and wiggle your way up to the ends.

Well ladies, there you have it…the perfect Midnight Smokey Eye. Be sure to have fun with this look, and don’t be afraid to experiment with other dark colors. Whether you use purple, black, or navy, it’s a great go-to for any night out.
