DIY Mini Olympic Medals

The Olympic games are finally here! I am so excited to be able to share the excitement with my little ones.

Celebrate the Opening ceremony tonight with these fun and easy DIY Salt Dough Medals (via The Imagination Tree)

Here’s what you’ll need:

For Salt Dough: 

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup coarse salt
  • 1 cup water
  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Round cookie cutter or lid
  • Confetti glitter (optional)

For Medals: 

  • 1 yd. red ribbon
  • Gold & silver acrylic paint
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking sheet

Directions: 

STEP 1: Start by simply mixing all of the ingredients in a bowl. Add water gradually. For added sparkle, add in confetti or glitter. Once fully mixed, lay dough on countertop.

STEP 2: Flatten dough with a rolling pin. Use a cookie cutter or lid to make circles leaving a small hole at the top of each for ribbon.

STEP 3: Place dough circles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 210F for 30-45 minutes or until hard.

STEP 4: Once fully baked, use a small brush or sponge to paint the dough medals gold or silver. Sprinkle glitter on wet paint and let them dry for up to an hour.

STEP 5: Thread red ribbon through hole on the top of dough and cut to your desired length.
