8 Time Saving Apps For Your Phone

time saving apps

With a crazy schedule, it’s easy for simple tasks to become a burden. From cleaning your house, booking a last-minute hotel, or even going to the grocery store, there are apps that help with that. Here are some great time saving apps that can ease the stress or be there in a pinch:

time saving apps1. Handy

Handy is the perfect app for any household need you may have. They specialize in everything from house cleaning, plumbing, electrical problems, and even furniture construction. With a click of a button, the app instantly matches you with a trusted professional in your area. The payment is secure with a 100% money-back guarantee. Call out a professional for a one-time use or set up weekly cleaning appointments.

 2. Instacart

I absolutely HATE going to the grocery store. This is especially the case when I have to bring my kids. Talk about a nightmare! When I know I have little to no patience to make the trek, I use Instacart. This app provides personal shoppers to go to the store for you, pick out your items, and deliver them within an hour. If you just want to try it out, your first delivery is free with sign up.

3. PS Dept

My friend, Emese Gormley, (aka my resident beauty product whore) turned me on to this app when I was in NYC. And, surprise! I’m addicted. It’s a personal shopper in an app. How many times have you either needed an item of clothing for an event or have no time to go shopping for sales? PS Dept does the work for you and notifies you when they’ve found the best options. You also have the option to scroll through other people’s requests to see if any work for you!

4. Washio

What’s worse than having loads of laundry to do? Nothing. That’s why Washio is such a genius app. This on-demand service allows you to outsource your laundry and dry cleaning…on your schedule! All you have to do is go to the app, select a 30-minute window where your clothes will be picked up, and they will arrive back within 24-36 hours! It’s basically the Uber (another great app!) for clothing, in my opinion. The rates are reasonable too!

5. Waze

I know this one is pretty well known but I had to add it to the list. It has literally SAVED me! Living in Los Angeles, I encounter inconvenient traffic almost daily. Because of this, I use Waze. The difference between this app and other navigation services is that Waze alerts you of traffic, closures, accidents, etc. in real time. It outsmarts the traffic by taking you on the best possible route to your destination.

6. Saucey

This is real life, people. Saucey is an app that actually delivers alcohol to your doorstep. Just have your ID ready! Their selection includes everything from top shelf liquor to wine. They’ll also deliver mixers to go along with your order. This comes in handy when you run out of drinks at a party or have no time to run out to the store. For your parties, Saucey also has on-demand bartenders with a click of a button.

6. Hotel Tonight

Oh, wow. I can’t even begin to tell you how often this app has completely saved my life. There have been times when my plane is delayed, a last minute event, or some other minor emergency and Hotel Tonight has been the easiest way to find a room fast! This is especially true when you need it just for one night. This app allows you to book last minute reservations, which usually have a discount. There are also reviews, professional photos, and app user photos to get a true feel for what the hotel is like before you book. This app is in most cities and is always a comfort to have just in case.

7. The Glam App

I’ve mentioned this app before, but it’s too good to not write about again. This beauty-on-demand service, (created by my makeup artist, Joey Maalouf along with actress and fashion blogger, Cara Santana) delivers beauty experts to your front door, office, or photo shoot in a matter of minutes. Whether you need a blow dry, makeup application, manicure–The Glam App has you covered.

8. Postmates

Okay, can I be honest? Sometimes I am way too tired to cook at home. These are the nights that I just want food delivered and get it over with. That’s where Postmates comes in. The app is a messenger on-demand delivery service from restaurants in most major cities. As a momma of two, this comes in handy all too often. It’s also a great way to try new things in your city!

My Fav Apps Of The Moment

Thanks to smartphones and tablets, tasks have become a lot easier. You need a food delivery? No problem. There’s an app for that! On-demand dry-cleaning? Yep. Another app for that. The list goes on and on! With so many different options out there (and new ones popping up daily) it’s hard to know which ones work or what’s offered.

I’m kind of an app hoarder. If I hear of a new app, I immediately download it just to try it out. While this may be bad for my phone data, it sure makes me an app expert. I’ve realized it all comes down to which types suit your personality and lifestyle.

For me, it’s all about what makes me feel more productive and organized (aka what helps me get shit done!) Convenience is key when it comes to my apps. Here are my top finds with some serious benefits:

Postmates

Okay, we’ve all been here. We go to the store, get all the ingredients on our list, start cooking, and THEN realize we forget something major. Well, my friends, that’s where Postmates is a lifesaver. The app is a messenger on-demand delivery service at your fingertips in most major cities. I’m serious, people. Anything! As a momma of two, this comes in handy all too often.

The Glam App

I’ve mentioned this app before but I’m so OB-SESSED that I have to include it again. This beauty-on-demand service, (created by my makeup artist, Joey Maalouf along with actress and fashion blogger, Cara Santana) delivers beauty experts to your front door, office, or photo shoot in a matter of minutes. Whether you need a blow dry, makeup application, manicure…The Glam App has you covered.

Washio

This service is the epitome of convenience. $1.60 per pound of laundry, $6 per dry-clean and delivery is free with a $20 minimum.

Baby Connect

SUPERMOMMA ALERT! Being away from your baby if necessary during the first year is especially hard. This app is everything when it comes to tracking daily information about your baby’s accomplishments and activities even when you’re not there. Your baby’s caretaker or nanny can effectively and easily communicate with you through the app! My baby nurse, Grace Leverenz, turned me onto it. I have been using this everyday since my Scarlett was born! I can track everything from feeding, diapers, sleep, mood, activities, and photos all from the app even when I need to be away for work. It’s completely changed my life.

Class Pass

One of the tough parts about traveling is making sure you don’t fall out of your fitness routine. Personally, I love fitness classes. They are interactive, never boring, and they push me to that next level. Class Pass is an app that allows you to go to hundreds of classes in all different cities with just ONE membership. From spin to yoga, they have classes of any interest or skill level. This app is absolutely perfect for people who travel. Even if you aren’t a jet setter, it’s still a great opportunity to try out different classes in your own city. Like I’ve said before, you’ve got to mix it up to keep it up!

My Fitness Pal

Okay, this one is a serious game changer.  My Fitness Pal helps you lose weight and stay in shape with it’s fast and easy calorie counter. There are endless options of foods listed in their food database and even an option to add your own. Even if you eat out, My Fitness Pal has an extremely large restaurant database with all the calorie counts as well. My Fitness Pal app also lets you track your workouts and will deduct calories burned from calories consumed.  There are over 350 exercises stored in their database. You can also connect My Fitness Pal to an activity tracker such as a Fitbit. This app is perfect to hold yourself accountable on your road to wellness!

Hotel Tonight

Oh, wow. I can’t even begin to tell you how often this app has completely saved my life. There are times when either my plane is delayed, I have a last minute event, or some other minor emergency and Hotel Tonight has been the easiest way to find a room fast! This is especially true when you need it just for one night. This app allows you to book last minute reservations, which usually have a discount. There are also reviews, professional photos, and app user photos to get a true feel for what the hotel is like before you book. This app is in most cities and is always a comfort to have just in case!

Evernote

This is the epitome of productivity. Evernote helps me collect my random thoughts, lists, and bookmarked articles into one place. When linked to my internet browser, whenever I Google something (if that keyword was mentioned in a prior note), it will pop up on the side of my screen. I normally find myself putting just a keyword into my Evernote because I know it will be something easy to come back to later! No more losing random post-it notes. I mean, that’s seriously something to celebrate!

#SuperMommaSecrets: How to Travel with a Toddler

As a parent, there are a few situations that you remember fondly as “BC” or before children. Traveling on a plane is definitely one of them.   BC, I was the red eye flight queen. I’d depart LA at almost midnight and wake up in NYC. I can’t even talk about the days of a long fight with a glass of wine and a huge stack of magazines to peruse.

Clearly, this is not an option now!! For the most part Brooks is a great little traveler, but I’ve honed my Super Momma skills to help keep air travel as painless as possible for my little family as well as all of those seated next to us.

Below are my tips and tricks for traveling with a toddler.

Involve your child

Talk about the trip ahead of time.  Make it sound like an adventure. Let them help you pack some of their toys into the carry on.  Find a fun book geared toward plane travel like this one. I am very lucky that Brooks loves anything involving planes, trains and automobiles.

Be prepared … for Anything

My husband makes fun of me for bringing everything AND the kitchen sink.  But he sure doesn’t mind the peaceful flights!  Make sure all of your electronics are charged fully before you depart.  There is nothing worse that trying to soothe the savage beast by putting on a Curious George DVD only to find the battery is dead.  For long flights and peace of mind, I have an external battery as back up.  I found this amazing portable charger that works with, iPhone, iPad and Android and it is priced nicely. I also pack a couple of large Ziploc bags for trash or diaper emergencies.  There are few smells worse on a plane than a dirty diaper. Speaking of diaper changes, I found that puppy wee wee pads are beyond excellent to use as a disposable changing pad. Totally absorbent top layers with a leak proof backing.

Bring favorite snacks

Peanuts from the plane will not satiate a toddler appetite.  I always bring a plethora of Brooks’ favorite snacks on board to make sure we keep his little belly happy.  Snacks they are familiar with and really like are key. Avoid overly sugary snacks.  You wouldn’t want your little one bouncing down the aisles while the fasten seat belt sign is illuminated. It goes without saying that a sugar crash meltdown in a confined space will have you wanting to sky dive out the emergency exit door. Here are a couple of Brooks’ favs that are super easy for toddler in flight dining.

  • Fruigees – Brooks goes bananas over all the flavors and they couldn’t be easier for on the go snacking.
  • Cliff Z Bar – Organic and made with whole grains, this is a perfect hand held snack.
  • Teensy Fruits – No high fructose corn syrup here! Perfect for little hands and much better for you than most of the fruit snacks out there.

Gift wrap small toys individually

I am not above bribery and you shouldn’t be either!  This does not have to be an expensive endeavor.  Hit the dollar store and get a bevvy of treats without breaking the bank.  Wrap each treat individually so they have something to unwrap about every 30 minutes or so.  This Matchbox car gift set is perfect for nine separate treats and the $9.99 price tag makes this momma happy!

The Magna Doodle 2-in-1 Doodle board is perfect for your little frequent fliers. With a triangular easy grip pen and a sealed gel painting surface, this double duty toy is the mess-free art project you need for the plane.  Brooks is really into stickers right now.  This colorform faces play set is perfect – it won’t create any permanent damage to your winged chariot but your kid will still enjoy all the good parts of stickers.

Lastly, and most importantly, try to keep calm. Children can smell fear!!  Be the captain of the ship … or this case the pilot!  If you feel a meltdown coming, do what every practiced parent does and redirect to the next activity. May the travel gods bless you with stress free flights!
